CONFUCIAN WISDOM

By Josef Maria Mayer

I do not quarrel with heaven
And forgive everything all the people.

He who knows me,
Is heaven.

Heaven has invested in me
The good works.

Who has sinned against heaven,
To whom should he pray?

Have fear of heaven,
Reverence for the saints,
Reverence for the wise.

The master was ill.
His student wanted to pray for him.
In the praises of the departed he reads:
We ask you, ye blessed spirits
In heaven and on earth!
The master said: My entire life
Was my prayer.

Learning by imitation
And practicing it,
Is that not that a nice satisfaction?

If people do not recognize you
As the one who you are,
So it is the part of the essence of the righteous.

The righteous man knows how
Justice to do.
The sinner knows how
To perceive his advantage.

The poet, who a weighty content
In a shapeless form expresses,
Is a gross poet.
The poet, who in an artful form
Expresses a low content,
Is a scribbler.
The poet, who the content and the style
Balanced and harmonious treats,
Is really a poet.

A wise man, who in his study
Pays attention to the good style
And in his action
Follows the precepts of virtue,
He will not stray from the true path.

The way out of inner peace
Is spacious and serene,
The goal is always about something
In great excitement .

Who checks his interior
And his failure improves,
What should he be sad?

The wise man is exalted,
But not arrogant,
The fool is sometimes haughty,
But never sublime.

The wise man puts high demands
In himself,
The fool makes high demands
At the people.

Just as the carpenter in his workshop remains,
To complete the work,
Thus, the way remains in his thoughts,
To achieve this,
What was recognized by him as the true way.

To perform funeral rites
Without sorrow in the heart,
How shall I bear it?

I listened in silence,
To see.
I was not tired of learning
And do not get tired to teach students.
What will they say of me?

A person who eats simple food,
Moderate in drinking
And with his own arm takes a pillow,
Can also experience the joy of life.
But wealth
And great honor in this world,
Without asking for the true path,
This is as fleeting as a cloud.

Who aligns on his heart,
His sanctification chase after,
He is mixed with everything under the sun,
Everything helps him
To convert to the true path.

The master said to his son:
Have you learned the classic songs?
No, said the son, not yet.
Son, who does not know the classic songs,
He can not talk with the wise.

In your surroundings to feel love,
This is beautiful.
Who has the choice to align his apartment afterwards?

A sage who despairs of Charity,
Earned the name of the wise no more.
A wise man does not remove once
For the duration of a lunch
From Charity.
In the tribulation of the world’s gear
Does he love his neighbor
And in the hour of danger.

Something to be too wasteful
For the love of neighbor,
This is a mistake,
He to me is still sympathetic.
But being stingy as errors,
I can not stand,
Such an error is
The lack of charity.

Whoever practices charity,
He has an internal staff
And can also hold other,
He knows the truth
And can teach others.

Set your will
On the true path,
Then the powerful Would be good,
Practice the charity
And rejoice in the great art.

When one speaks of charity,
So she lives as an approach in us,
But she is often veiled
To the desire.
Only when we remove the selfishness away,
Can charity be visible.

What is the essence of charity?
To love the people.
What is the essence of wisdom?
To recognize the people.

Whether we do it the old to comfort
Or to press the little ones to the heart
Or to stand by our word
In dealing with the friends,
There is nothing
What does not depend on charity.

Who is just and wise,
He has authority,
He does not need to command,
And the little ones but obey.
The fool, which recognizes no truth,
He can command as loud as he wants,
The kids still do not obey.

One who loves wisdom,
Has more enjoyment in wisdom
Than he who wisdom only knows.
One who loves wisdom,
If the joys of the world are not coming,
He's happy about the wisdom itself!

Astraying do not come from heaven,
For from heaven comes alone
The true way.
Who does not bound his heart
On the true path,
He flows to the heresies,
Among those of Buddha is the greatest.

Who knows how
The wisdom of the ancients
Makes new life
And from this wins recognition,
He can be called a teacher.

The master said to his son:
Li, with a human being
To be together all day
Without being tired of him,
That can only the educated.

The fools but keep it for wisdom,
All sorts of lists and pitfalls to think out,
They rejoice in the fall of another,
They are afraid to learn something,
And yet are ashamed by nothing,
Such is the dame folly.

Do not say: No one listens to what I teach!
God hears the words of the people!

What is the superiority of the master?
I recognize, what do the words of the wise,
And I look on the art,
This is the spirit which inspires me to greatness,
To cultivate me.

O this spirit,
Which inspired me to greatness!
The Spirit is the breath of our body,
Originally, he is one
With the energy of Heaven
And is also the inner life of the earth.
Anyone looking up to heaven
Needs not be ashamed
And who is looking down to earth
Does not have to blush,
He needs not to worry
And needs not to be anxious.
With this man joins the sound
Between Heaven and Earth.

The pious cares
About the Spirit within,
The divine breath in us,
He inspires us to great things,
Lets us be one
With the Father in Heaven.

And what should people do?
Should they have no heart for the neighbors?
What if they have no heart for justice?
If people but
Unconscionable live,
So they are like a forest,
He will be cut down by axes.
If you day after day in outrage
Act against your conscience,
How could you do good?
However, after morning and evening
With a quiet prayer of the divine breath
Come the loved ones together
And the softened enemies.
But if the person in everyday’s life
Shackles things,
Who fight against his conscience,
So conscience is silent soon.
Then also the regular breath is nothing.
When man no longer
The divine breath meditates,
Then the man returns
And will be similar to the animals.

Suffering that affects of another,
Man can not bear
Without help.
So if a man
A child sees dropping in a channel,
The man in his heart scares.
He will feel love
Even if he is not the biological father
And the child is not begotten of his seed.
The man does feel pity about this,
Because he the child's mother’s
Wanted friend,
Not because the gossips in the villages
Praise him and should praise him,
His name should receive no stain,
But simply because the child got into trouble.
But all those creatures,
Which do not know that compassion,
The are not ashamed about errors,
They feel no abhorrence about the bad,
They are stubborn and obstinate,
Which good and evil can not distinguish,
They are no longer to be regarded as human beings.

Loving relationship with a human being
Without the pain of the wound
In the depths of the heart,
Is only a mere theory,
The general philanthropy.

Only the pain of the wound
Let us learn to move forward,
Otherwise we remain lying lazily.

The heart must first consider all
In listening to the voice of conscience.
When the heart speaks first,
One attains the truth,
Otherwise, however, one gets not the truth.
The voice of conscience
Is given us into the heart by Heaven.
Who first aligns his heart
In truth,
Whose mind is not overturned,
He is a great man
And just as a great man.

When heaven
Is calling a great man,
So heaven is first
On the heart of the man
A heavy burden imposing.
So heaven is
A man's heart moving,
Make him humble and patient.
Just as man is made,
Things to accomplish,
He could not accomplish before.

Why do I inform about the way
My son not by myself?
Oh, the circumstances do not allow this!
The teacher will be guided by the law.
If he sees that one transgresses against the law,
He gets angry.
But this anger
Alienated the student of his master.
The student will say to himself:
The father always taught me
Always to look for the good,
But now he can not control himself
And gets very quick to anger.
So one day
Father and son alienate.
But then father and son
Separate from each other,
Which is a disaster.
In the golden antiquity
Have the wise fathers
The sons replaced,
In order to teach them.
Between father and son
Should no-one get between,
That the path of goodness is bad spoken of,
Because then everyone would go his own way.
And if such a separation is concluded
And father and son separated from each other living
Then that's really sad!…

The open heaven
Is watching from heaven,
How is it, if you previously
See things and order them?
To be one with the will of heaven
And to sing the omnipotent one,
How is it, you previously
Will yourself master,
The received from heaven
Accessible to use.
Longing for the arrival of hope,
Only comes the arrival of the expected,
As it is, if you previously
The time correspondes to do something for the kingdom.

Who can tell the difference
Between what gives us heaven
And what give us the people,
He will gain knowledge.

The heart receives
The enlightenment by God.
The heart’s dictate
Instructs the heart,
Moves the heart,
Stops the heart.
The lips can be forced,
To speak or to remain silent,
The shape can be forced,
To writhe,
But the conscience
As the voice of the heart
Is free!
When the heart knows the truth,
Then it's the truth,
And nothing and no one can prevent it.

I also compare the heart
To one bowl of water,
Which stood quiet on a table.
The sludge sinks to the bottom,
Above the water is clear,
So that you can see your beard in it.
If the bowl but move,
The to clouds becomes the water
And you can not see your face.

Man has by nature
The possibility to realize
And a free will.
However, the heart must be free,
In order to receive the orders of heaven.
Because what you've already received,
If you do not stop this,
Heaven would like to donate even more.

You shall know the way!
Investigate and recognize the way
And act according to the commandments of heaven,
Walk the path
And give wisdom a figure.
Make your heart free from all
In order for this to be an open heart
And thou shalt be quiet.
You will be subtle and clear.

If one recognizes
What is given him from heaven,
He can do great works
In selfless action,
Depth of knowledge is to come over him,
Who do not want to reinvent himself.

Suppose the real truth,
Be free of all impurity,
We need to keep the truth inside.
About the impurity,
About what you blush with shame,
Everybody must check himself.
Have we found the truth,
Will she help us in all our ways.
We love our self
Because we know the truth.
But if we find impurity in us,
Then our soul is like a field,
On which still weed grows.
Man then is ashamed before his own soul.

The art of connecting the mind with the breath of God
And to preserve the peace of the heart
Is the animal’s lust
To tame and curb
And to order the passions
And with the whole person
To bring into harmony.
And also in discerning
Crushes us the individual
And our spirit rises,
If we look at the whole-large.

Some say to tame the lust
One could only wait for the old age,
When lust dies by itself.
Some say to tame the lust
One could only wait for the later period,
When the desire is weakened.
These people do not believe
That one can tame and curb cravings
And the passion organize.

We have the passion
Received from heaven,
But without specific object.
The object that chooses the passion
Determines the heart.
From heaven we have so
The passion alone,
But our heart directs
The passions to their objects.
Therefore, the proportion
Out of heaven
Is difficult to determine.

If the desire exceeds the amount,
The measured degree from the heart,
If the movement of desire
Does not reach the desirable
And even not-desirable gets,
Then the heart retains the desire.

Whether it comes to order
Or comes to confusion
In our thoughts,
Depends on the ability to detect,
And as we trained this ability,
But it does not depend on
Feelings of desire.

Because only with passion
An object can be achieved,
Therefore, pursuit of man cometh
From the impulse of passion.

Who guards the gates of his senses,
Can not kill the passion,
It is the drive
Of all his natural systems.
Although man therefore must not kill
The impulse of passion,
May he not allow
That the passion
Exceeds its limit.

Man, however, seeks

Satisfaction by looking
In desire,
His heart is restless,
But the man who seeks his peace
In converting the true path,
His heart will be subtly clear.

The fool is boastful
And will that one believes him,
The fool cheats and lies
And wants but that you love him.
The fool is like an animal
And will that all admire him.
The fool comes in thinking to no reason
And while doing always restless,
Most recently, he does not acquire endearing,
But odious.

The wise man has confidence
And will that you can trust him.
The sage meets the people
From the inside of the heart out
And wants to give love to people.
The manner directed straight to
And assigns its concepts and thoughts
And will that people respect his thoughts.
While thinking he simply seeks the truth,
While doing it simply looks for good.
Finally, he obtained the loveable
And not encounter the abominable.

If the heart of the wise widens
He respects the gifts of heaven
And follows the right path.
He is concerned only about
The good thing to do,
And so he remains temperate in all things.
In thinking he considered the being
And heed to the general good
And the best of all kinds.
He ranks first his heart at rest,
Then he focuses on the true path.
His joy is balanced
And even in grief he is calm and collected.

For the wise, there is nothing better
As to make his heart wide,
As to be truthful.
Who knows the truth with his heart,
For him there is nothing better than the truth.
The wise applies only charity
And the doing of justice,
Because in charity
Is God present.
